Footage Project
Read a brief update on how the program is progressing.
Footage is a feminist organization raising voices to elevate lives through creative research, wellbeing interventions, and advocacy - all advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They use narrative and expressive approaches empowering young women around the world to connect as agents of social change. Their belief is that compassion and connection are as important to sustainable development as food and water.
Footage Foundation's FemSMS service provides women in crisis in Ukraine & crisis zones with rapid access to
information and resources. FemSMS is a compassionate text-based information service — focusing on gender-based
violence, mental health, safety, and women's health — that offers women and girls hope and social connection. It
equips them with trusted information in these transformative times through the delivery of text messages using
compassionate language to end information poverty, increase resilience and build belonging.
This grant will support the FemSMS service. These critical grant funds will be used to
strengthen the FemSMS information and communications systems and give voice to and employ team members
directly from affected populations. These FemSMS ICT Transformation project-specific funds will be used to:
- Migrate the FemSMS service to a more reliable technical solution in the region, Viber.
- Research, create, and distribute (eight) vital text messages promoting the mental wellbeing and physical
safety of minimum 600 number of direct recipients and an estimated 1000+ indirect recipients.
- Convene a culminating international FemSMS/Girl-talk-Girl conference on Mind, Body and Compassion
that brings these communications and young women from many of Footage's programs together in real
time dialogue, live online.
This grant will additionally fund one International FemSMS/Girl-talk-Girl Conference on Mind, Body and
Compassion. Girl-talk-Girl, Footage's flagship program, targets young women who are at risk of experiencing GBV.
This includes first-generation women students, internally displaced women, and women from vulnerable
communities. Through this program, Footage has created the largest grassroots digital storytelling platform and
accompanying toolkit on gender-based violence (girltalkgirl.org), and actively engages partner organizations in
using the platform and toolkit, increasing awareness of GBV and young women's voices throughout the U.S.,
Russia, Ukraine, Chile and Kazakhstan.
